“The great Australian (Chinese) novel”

For me and my colleagues involved in The Poison of Polygamy republication project, the rediscovery, and translation-accompanied rerelease, of an early Australian novel that had been written in Chinese felt significant in many ways, including as a step towards a truer representation of the complexion of Australia’s literary heritage.
