“The great Australian (Chinese) novel”

For me and my colleagues involved in The Poison of Polygamy republication project, the rediscovery, and translation-accompanied rerelease, of an early Australian novel that had been written in Chinese felt significant in many ways, including as a step towards a truer representation of the complexion of Australia’s literary heritage. The Australian newspaper seemed to recognise this, and immediate to publication I was contacted by Managing Editor Helen Trinca, who requested an article for an upcoming September 2019 special China issue of the newspaper’s companion business magazine The Deal: please follow this link for the paywall-protected piece that resulted (note that the title, subtitle and accompanying image were the work of the newspaper).
