It was an honour to be invited by the Chinese Australian Historical Society (CAHS) to deliver this February 2019 Chinese New Year presentation in Sydney. I spoke about The Poison of Polygamy, which was at this point nearing publication.

The audience was large and enthusiastic, and CAHS proved a more than hospitable host, surprising me with a generous gift voucher for Canberra’s Asia Bookroom. I later used this voucher to purchase a three-volume set of “皇朝經世文編”—a celebrated 1826 collection of over two-thousand-two-hundred essays and other writings, composed by people of awe-inspiring literary accomplishment, on the subject of governance and matters related thereto, which while dry by some standards continues to provide me with much reading pleasure. My thanks to CAHS, and all who attended.
